Reflecting on my Proposal

My Proposal

As I am in my third year at Marquez Elementary, I feel the impacts of our overall staff shortage and large 30 student class sizes. This problem leads to a less individualized education for our students, high teacher burnout, and an overall feeling of stress. I think without actually hiring more teachers and staff, technology is the best tool to solve this issue. Through the use of the technology tool Seesaw, teachers can carry out individualized instruction based on special education goals, bilingual needs, enrichment, or remediation.

Reflections

So far this proposal process has been easy-going. I believe this to be true because this is a technology tool my school has purchased and used in the past. One of the most positive aspects of this journey so far has been the response from my administration team. Through my discussions with my instructional coach, I have felt supported and respected with my ideas. She has echoed the need to solve this problem and has engaged in purposeful dialogue to execute my technology tool idea. I am very excited to execute this idea in my own classroom as a trial basis.

A challenge I have reflected on is the reality that some teachers in my building will not want to use a hybrid teaching model. As with any professions, there are people who want to dive into technology and innovations head first and there are some who want to continue to use what as been working for them. I think to overcome this challenge, myself and administration needs to react with respect and kindness for these colleagues. Through professional developments and modeling you can convince teachers to try things out. I can use my own classroom successes and experiences to share the positive outcomes this solution can have.

I am excited to become a leader in utilizing technology in my school, however, I can become shy with my confidence. This is only my third year teaching and although I know the skills and qualities I bring to my school, I can also feel nervous. I know some teachers bring decades long experience to the table so I want to approach any conversation or professional development with respect and alliance. I know this proposal will enhance learning for all students. It is my duty to stay relevant and current with technology trends to provide the best educational I can to my students.
